Which Jin Yong characters have good potentials but in the end turn out to be just mediocre fighters ?
I am going to dominate Yang Kang
He has the potential, smart, bright, ambitious young fella. He can hire the best teacher, and he was trained by master QJZ himself but his political and wealth ambition drove him to focus less on his own martial arts training.
Do you have any other candidates ? |

Yang Kang is a smart person ,the only error Jin Yong make is he die too early ,Jinyong shall make him a student of Aun Yong Fung have a duel with Gou Jing in Hua Shan .
I think Wei Xiao Bao was a smart guy too ,if he more serious guy in learning kung fu and not a girls raping guy or chasing girls ,he could too become a great fighter in Qing era . _________________ To defeat your enemy is to learn from your enemy . |

No way man. Ouyang Feng wouldn't take him as a disciple. He killed Ouyang Feng's son man. |

WXB's case is an exception to the rule, he's written by Jin Yong as an "anti-hero" character, so strip off all the gallant acts, forget all the gentleman's acts, and forget all the top notch kungfu. |

I put Murong Fu as the first candidate.
At the beginning of the novel, he was highly praised. but then he turned out to be a loser! |

Murong Fu is a sad case but you can blame it on his blind obsession to restore the Yan dynasty without proper planning.
I would also put Huang Rong and Ouyang Ke on the list.
Both Huang Rong and Ouyang Ke are direct bloodline of the Greats in the Condor Trilogy, but neither made it to even close to the Great's level.
Huang Rong was especially blessed with unequalled relationship to 4 Greats.
- Guo Jing is her husband
- Huang Yaoshi is her father
- Hong QiGong is her teacher
- Zhou Botong is her husband's swornbrother.
How much more convenient could you get to improve yourself with that kind of relationship to the 4 Great level fighters in the trilogy. |

So overly convenient! Too much in fact, which comes down to what smart people especially a character like Huang Rong thinks.
I am sure in the back of her mind she thought ... Oh well, I have a husband who's a Great hero with unequaled martial arts skills, a father who's one of the four Greats with supreme intelligence and martial arts skills, a teacher who's a well respected hero who controled the largest martial arts union in China and a Great level fighter, an a friend (who happens to be my husband's swornbrother) who possibly the greatest Quanzhen fighter in the era, then why do I need to excel my martial arts skills for ? Let's just relax and have a good time with my husband and raise my kids. |

Huang Rong's brain power with all those powerful men around her, no way man! If I were her I wouldn't have worried too much about getting too powerful either, I'd rather focus on my other worries and daily activities. |

Huang Rong has too much commitment. She has to look after her own household and also the Bagger's Union. Juggling motherhood and work responsibility. Where would she have time to train on her martial art? _________________ “寧願人負我,我絕不負人” - 陳鍵鋒 |

You would think being the beggar union's Chief, she should try to improve her skills so she stand up for her sect. _________________

You would think right:) HR's got the brain of Einstein in JY world and the luck to have all the most powerful people around her including a superman called Guo Jing. If I were her, I'd probably not going to concentrate my time on my kungfu practice either. |
