On the 4th Anniversary of Leslie Cheung's death, his fan club RedMission繼續張國榮歌影迷國際聯盟 (Red Mission Song and Acting of Leslie Cheung Continues) held a gathering, 為您鍾情30年紀念活動, at the New World Shopping Centre yesterday to remember the late Leslie Cheung. Among the attendees were said to have been Leslie Cheung's family and Tong Tong. There were 1,500 people in attendance with 100 seats available for workers, special guests, and the elderly, and the first 1,000 people received crystal roses. At the event was an area where people were able to purchase Leslie Cheung's memorabilia, and all proceeds benefited the Hong Kong Children's Cancer Fund.

Eason Chan made a special appearance at the gathering and performed 不求人, which Lin Xi wrote for Leslie Cheung, to commemorate Leslie Cheung. The lyrics of that song described Leslie Cheung. During the performance Eason Chan said, "The name 'Leslie Cheung Continues' is perfect because Leslie Cheung influenced many people, including me." At the end of the song, Eason Chan said, "Thank you Leslie Cheung."

At the end of the ceremony, many fans shed tears and Lin Xi presented a poem for Leslie Cheung.

At the same time, Jacky Cheung was holding his "Long Time No See 2007 Guang Zhou Concert," and did not forget his friend. During the concert he sang his self-written song 給朋友 to commemorate his good friend Leslie Cheung.

NEWS: Leslie Cheung Memorial Concert Announced

The fifth anniversary of the death of Leslie Cheung (張國榮) will be marked on 01 April and a press conference was held today by his former manager and good friend, Florence Chan (陳淑芬), to announce a memorial concert titled Miss You Much Leslie <繼續寵愛音樂會> that will be held at the Hong Kong Coliseum on that date.

Many big names have been confirmed to perform at the show, including Jacky Cheung (張學友), Deanie Ip (葉德嫻), Tony Leung (梁朝偉), Grasshopper (草蜢), Elisa Chan (陳潔靈), Karen Mok (莫文蔚), Winnie Hsin (辛曉琪), Nnadia Chan (陳松伶), William So (蘇永康), Andy Hui (許志安), Joyce Cheng (鄭欣宜), Sylvia Chang (張艾嘉) and Anthony Wong (黃耀明). All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to charitable causes.

Mrs Chan revealed that tickets will go on sale on 12 March and all the priority reservation tickets have already been snapped up. She added that Jacky will be the artistic director for the event and Jet Tone films have also provided 200 special souvenir sets of Leslie's film Happy Together <春光乍泄>, which will be autographed by co-star Tony, to be auctioned for charity. Leslie's partner Daffy Tong (唐鶴德) has also lent some of the costumes and notes used for the Leslie Passion 2 concert.

The song "Fireworks" <煙花燙> was written by Mrs Chan for Leslie during his lifetime. To mark the occasion, the song has had a special rearrangement and the music video for this song will be available for download from the official website, so that fans everywhere can join in remembrance of Leslie.

A second memorial concert will be held later on in the year on the date of Leslie's birthday, 12 September to mark the end of the season of events to remember the singing and acting legend. The second concert will take a different format and will feature an indoor and an outdoor show that will be broadcasted by satellite to many different countries worldwide to allow more of Leslie's many fans to enjoy it. Mrs Chan also hoped that the record companies of the performers will allow them to produce a DVD of the 01 April concert to raise even more money for charity.

Mrs Chan appeared to be quite tearful during the broadcast of the "Fireworks" music video at the press conference and she said that the concept for the concert had been prepared a year ago, but she has been very busy, so she has only started preparing for the concert since February. She said that she has never been able to pull together her emotions since Leslie died, but decided that it was time to put her sadness behind her after five years.

Joyce was not on the original list of performers for the concert, but Mrs Chan explained that one of Lydia Sum (沈殿霞)'s favourite songs was Leslie's "Deep Love" <儂本多情> and although the song was included in the run down, someone else was arranged to sing it. After Lydia's death, she found that it was more fitting for Joyce to sing this song as a tribute to both Leslie and Lydia.

Asked how Joyce was faring, Mrs Chan said that she has matured a lot and her mood is improving now. She also felt that it was time for all the gossip surrounding her to stop.

Although Leslie Cheung passed away six years ago, it seems this late Hong Kong pop legend will never be forgotten.

Fans from all over the world held various memorial services to mark the sixth anniversary of the death of Leslie Cheung on Thursday.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, fans from around the world came to Hong Kong's Mandarin Oriental Hotel where Cheung leapt to his death on April 1, 2003 after a hard battle with depression.

Outside the hotel, wreaths, heart-shaped flowers, photographs and heartfelt words were offered to commemorate this great entertainer. Cheung was considered a phenomenal Hong Kong performer and he captured the hearts of fans with his artistic talent and effortless charisma either on stage or on the big screen.

Fans have arranged many other activities to remember 'Gor Gor', Cantonese for "big brother", Cheung's nickname. They screened "Farewell My Concubine", the 1993 historical epic movie for which Cheung won most of the acclaims for his unparalleled acting as a Peking opera star.
