I love Daniel Lee's directing style, and I heard the story is quite similar to SECRET SERVICE OF THE IMPERIAL COURT which I really like, Donnie Yen is on board, so it should be a promising project. _________________ Martin |

There's an English title for the movie now, 14 BLADES. Here's a synopsis from Twitch
Quote: During the Ming Dynasty, the Emperor of China possessed one weapon greater than all others, the Jinyiwei, an elite force of assassins recruited from street orphans. Trained in clandestine combat from childhood, the Jinyiwei were masters of the 14 Blades, eight being for torture, five for killing, and the last blade being reserved for suicide when a mission failed. Above the law, with a license to kill, the Jinyiwei devoted their lives and lethal prowess to the service of the Emperor alone.
When the Imperial Court is taken over by evil eunuch JIA, the best of the Jinyiwei, QUINGLONG and XUANWU, are assigned to steal a list identifying those still loyal to the Emperor. However unbeknownst to Quinglong, the Jinyiwei have fallen under the control of Jia, and during the mission Quinglong is betrayed by Xuanwu and barely escapes with his life. Now as the most wanted man in the land Quinglong must seek out and rally the loyalists to rise against Jia and restore the Emperor to power. In his way are the deadliest assassins in the land, his former brethren, the Jinyiwei.

Great movie with involving story, solid acting from Leung Kar-Yan and lots of well choreographed albeit quite undercranked fights from the director of both BASTARD SWORDSMAN-movies. Look here! _________________ Martin |

Ouch ,,, that poster is so... RED
I am waiting to see some behind the scene pictures, I bet you this is going to be very interesting, a new look at Shaw Brother's classics. Secret Service of the Imperial Court was one of the best later (1984 - right before the fall of the House of Shaw) wuxia films from Shaw Brothers, also one of Leung Kar yan's very best.

Oh man, not a fan of Danie Lee.. thats too bad because the original material is pretty good. I was hoping that a more capable director would direct this but maybe it'll turn out OK. As long as its not Ressurection of the Dragon |

Donnie Yen in for Bond-esque actioner
'14 Blades' will be directed by Daniel Lee
By Patrick Frater
May 12, 2009
CANNES -- Donnie Yen is to star in "14 Blades," a martial arts actioner being positioned as a "Chinese James Bond movie."
Production is set to begin this week in Ningxia, China, under the direction of Hong Kong's Daniel Lee ("Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon," "Black Mask").
The film, budgeted at $20 million, is produced by "Three Kingdoms" producer Susanna Tsang through her Hong Kong-based Visualizer Film Prods. and mainland China's Shanghai Film Group. World sales (excluding China, Singapore and Malaysia) are being handled by Easternlight, the Asian label of L.A.-based sales outfit Arclight Films.
The screenplay by Lee and Abe Kwong is set within Jinyiwei, a 14th century intelligence agency that hired street orphans and trained them as assassins who employed an arsenal of blades for torture and assassination. The story involves a licensed killer who has to overthrow a puppetmaster who has usurped the powers of the rightful emperor. The picture also stars Zhao Wei.
" '14 Blades' is really the first James Bond film from China and is based on historical fact," Tsang said. "Audiences from China and abroad have never seen this type of Chinese movie before."

It seems however that alot of people are concerned that Daniel Lee is the director. Looking at his filmography as a director, I seriously don't know what to expect too. Also hoping they find someone good as the action director. |

Hope to see Donnie Yen's own choreography here, at least please get Sammo Hung over. (wishing for best Maz ... seriously).
I personally don't like to see these Shaw Brother's super classic films get a remake, especially in the hands of the wrong director. Let's keep our fingers crossed. |

I doubt it. Donnie has said that he wants to take a little break from choreographing and just concentrate on his acting. Any news on the action director yet? |
